VADEA Annual Conference 2010: Back to the future: Australian Curriculum Visions
This conference focuses on how the Visual Arts is positioned in the Arts in the preparatory phases of the proposed Australian Curriculum. A progam of research papers and round table discussions will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of ACARAs proposals. Presentations by Visual Arts teachers and artworld practitioners will also provide teachers opportunities to refresh and revitalise approaches to programming and teaching and learning. VADEA invites Visual Arts and Design educators to contribute to the consultation process.
Emergent key questions include:
- How will the Visual Arts be positioned in the proposals for the Australian Curriculum?
- Can the theoretical foundations of the curriculum proposals be justified?
- How will the advances made in NSW visual arts education be accommodated and/or will they be sacrificed by a preoccupation with Arts learning and equity across the arts?
- How will a continuum of learning in the visual arts from K-10 and beyond represented?
- What role might ACARA/other agencies play in negotiating differences in the representations of the visual arts and the arts more generally across the country? What role should state and national professional associations play
here?
- What will this mean for art teachers?
